Hot pink-toenailed boy in J. Crew ad sparks controversy
I find it all rather ridiculous, but then again I grew up with a little brother who loved getting his toe nails painted and hes now a rough and tough, JRTC boy whose favorite activity video games, and going out with girls.. maybe Im a bit bias but how does painting a childs toe nails cause them to need psychological help in future life?

My Son (Who will be 5 soon) Use's an Old Purse of mine to Carry his Hot Wheels in and I have had Crazy Remarks from Family Members About that too.. These are Kids, Let them Explore & Have fun.. He Knows certain things like Tutu's, and Hairbows are for Girls, but he Also Knows that Babydolls are for Girls but likes to Play with them, and I let him.. I see Nothing Wrong with it.. and If he Wanted his Toes Painted, I would do it :)
I agree, my brother grew up playing dress up with us girls, and why shouldnt your son have a purse to hold his cars it seems perfectly reasonable.
Oh, please! If it's good for the goose, it's good for the gander ... literally! My 2-year-old son's favorite movies are Thumbelina and My Little Ponies. One of his few words is "pretty," and he uses it for flowers and jewelry and anything else he likes. My eldest daughter adores Transformers, Ben 10, and all the other "boy" shows, as well as tools and cars. As long as their actions aren't hurting anyone, I don't care if they fall within traditional gender roles. Watch, it will be the middle child, who is completely traditional gender-role wise, who will end up being something other than straight. ;)
I grew up Playing with Hot Wheel in the Mud, and also Enjoyed my Barbies/ My Little Ponys.. So Why is it such a Big Deal when it's a Boy who also Enjoys Playing Tea Party or Barbies??
Or in this Case, Getting there Toes Painted :)
Thats exactly what I thought reading some of the comments the "professionals" made in the article really irked me.
I believe in a child being able to play with whatever toy they choose, play dress up, wear moms heels or even dads boots, Male or female doesn't make a difference we are who we are before we are born and nothing we do as children will change that. We will either be straight or homosexual well before we paint our toenails male or female and that is how it is. We should never deprive a child of playing with something because they are not the correct gender who came up with this crap anyway. Why is it ok for a girl to wear pink but not ok for a boy. who said pink is a girls color? People who believe that children should be allowed to do things within their gender are wrong. We teach our children that they can do anything they want when did itbecome you can do anything you want as long as its acceptable with your gende..crap
Oh and I find that little boys who dress up, tea party or makeovers grow up to be kinder gentler men there is nothing in my house that is gender specific
I am taking Development Through the LifeSpan this semester in college and I actually learned about gender roles and I think that it is children being themseleves. They don't know the differences and the child should be able to experiment and to try things they want. There are girls out there that are tomboys. What is wrong with a boy liking girl things?
